Coaching is a very effective way for people to make changes in their working (and personal) lives, such as finding ways to work more effectively, improving relationships with colleagues and clients, looking at their own learning needs and developing longer-term career plans.
When you take me on as your coach, I assume that you want to make changes. Rather than giving you advice or telling you what to do, I will help you identify your own ideas and plans of action that will work for you.
I am a fully trained and qualified professional business coach with a stated ethical framework and a commitment to proper supervision for all my coaching work. In addition, I continually update my knowledge and skills.
I am able to offer different coaching techniques to cater for people’s preferred learning styles. My initial training at the School of Coaching worked on the assumption that we need to concentrate on what we can do, cutting out the interference that tells us either what we ought to or can’t do. This saw me on the tennis courts for the first time since my teenage years, producing powerful ground strokes from a borrowed racquet. I have found that the “inner game” approach works equally well for day-to-day problems at work.
A couple of years ago, I was very excited to discover Clean Language. This is a structured approach which helps to develop a rich picture of your desired goals and resources. I was so struck by the power and effectiveness of clean language that I went on to undertake several training modules before qualifying as a clean language facilitator.
I have coached individuals both to meet their particular needs and also as part of wider organisational programmes. I work both face to face and by telephone. I have also provided coaching for groups and trained managers in coaching skills.
To cater for larger commissions, I have set up Coaching Transitions in partnership with Sue Lee. Coaching Transitions offers packages which combine coaching with other HR solutions such as psychometric testing.
What can you expect from coaching?
If you need help to prepare for a job interview, or want to plan an approach to a tricky situation at work, I am happy to do a one-off session with you. Normally, however, I work with people over a number of months. Sessions are at agreed intervals and usually last around one-and-a-half hours.
...you can expect
to find the attention
on you
and
on your own
resources
and strengths...
During your coaching sessions you can expect to find the attention on you and on your own resources and strengths. You should expect goodwill, support and confidential treatment of your work. It will be helpful if you are open to respectful challenge and if you are prepared to look at how you can make changes. If you are sponsored by your organisation, I work on the assumption that you and I will be accountable to them. We will reach agreement on the details of this before we start work.
I do not name the individuals I coach, but you may be interested in their experiences of coaching (below).
In addition to offering coaching, from time to time I have also acted as mentor to younger professionals. I am happy to consider further requests if you think this kind of support would work for you.
How other people have found the coaching experience
(quotes from individual coachees)
"Clarifying at the start what I wanted to look at and what outcomes I wanted…bringing me back to things I’d half-said or not fully explored…enabled me to think about what did and didn’t work by encouraging me to think ideas through fully and being realistic about how I’d feel about implementing them "
"Easier than I thought"
"I could find many different solutions/methods to a problem"
"Felt energised at the end!"
"I was surprised by the powerful effect the Clean Language and Clean Space sessions had on me"
